The drive to Peaceful Meadows had been a pleasant one as Amanda Blackwell’s sister, Lana, excitedly recalled the names of different varieties of beautiful fall foliage and trees that decorated the highway along the way. The sky was a beautiful shade of blue with no clouds in sight. Lana parked the car close to the front door of the nursing home and went inside to get assistance in transferring Amanda from the car to a wheelchair. Amanda had time to survey her surroundings as she sat alone in the car. Fall décor decorated the lawn and front flower beds. Everything appeared to be clean and well kept. Even the scarecrow with the “Welcome Fall Ya’ll” sign seemed to have a comforting smile on his face. Amanda tried to fight back the nervousness she was feeling, the dark cloud that was hanging over her emotions that could erupt at any time. She kept telling herself over and over that everything would be fine; still she couldn’t help but wonder what she would face on the other side of the front door she was staring at. How would she be treated and would she receive the care she needed? What kind of roommate would she have? Would the food be eatable? So many questions, so much anxiety, and there was nothing she could do about it. Amanda knew all of her questions would soon be answered because Lana just came through the front door with the two attendants.
